The Louisiana Office of Film & Television is one of four divisions of Louisiana Entertainment, an office within the State of Louisiana’s Economic Development (LED) department.
Since 2002, Louisiana has been recognized as a global destination for motion picture and televisions production and the industry has grown exponentially thanks to its innovative & unique tax incentive package.
In 2008, Louisiana set a production record with more than 80 major film and television projects, representing more than $800 million in production budgets, including approximately $500 million spent in state. Louisiana is now recognized as THE global leader in production incentives.
Additional businesses servicing our film industry spring up regularly as a direct result of the increase in production over the years.
Louisiana has established a deep crew base with world-class support services and facilities needed to produce any motion picture. The Louisiana Office of Film & Television’s primary goal is to encourage development in Louisiana of a strong capital base for motion picture production to achieve a sustainable, self-supporting industry.
What began with a unique tax incentive package targeting motion picture production has resulted in a robust and rapidly expanding film industry in Louisiana.
Louisiana’s skilled crew base has grown over 400% since the program’s inception and infrastructure continues to mature rapidly with soundstages and post-production facilities open in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
The purpose of entertainment tax incentives is to fuel long-term investment in a new economy that capitalizes on Louisiana’s indigenous creative culture. Since 2002, when the first tax credit was introduced, the entertainment incentives have generated over $2 billion in new revenue which have created thousands of high-wage jobs, spurred state-of-the art infrastructure development, and generated new business opportunities.
Louisiana promotes film and television production throughout the state so filmmakers can enhance their production value by taking advantage of unique benefits different communities around the state offers. The State of Louisiana is committed to building a motion picture industry. For the past few years Louisiana has worked to diversify the economy by creating high-skilled, high-paying jobs that are a natural fit for our native creative talent.
The tax credits, skilled and qualified workforce, a well-developed infrastructure along with a variety of locations create great filmmaking experiences. However, Louisiana’s continued success is also due to the unique joie de vivre and support of its citizens. Across this state, Louisiana’s citizens have embraced the motion picture industry to help foster its growth.
We are very proud to be the home of an internationally celebrated and vibrant creative culture.
