Once upon a time, in a city called New Orleans …

“How do I get in this Hollywood biz?”

This simple question a vendor asked me some time ago while on the set of a feature film I was producing in New Orleans was one I’d heard often.

If I had a nickel every time I was asked that in my numerous years in Hollywood, I would be a millionaire.

Always polite, I replied, “So, what do you want to do? Write? Direct? Produce?”

He gave me the strangest look and dryly said, “I just want to rent my portajohns.” I started to laugh. This businessman’s simple query was one which wanted to develop new contacts and business opportunities in Hollywood South.

I realized we weren’t in Hollywood. We were in New Orleans. If I was back in Los Angeles, I’d have my little black book and a few other resources yet, no valuable resource existed at the time for Hollywood South which connected vendors, actors, crew talent and many more with productions coming to Louisiana.

The spark which started The HollywoodSouth Blog was lit.

Founder & Editor In Chief — “Chief Intuitive Evangelist”

For over 26 years, Stanley B. Gill — a New Orleans boy — has worked in Hollywood behind the camera as a writer, director, producer and cinematographer. He has worked in post-production as an editor, sound mixer and re-mastering producer. Mr. Gill has run several industry divisions and companies which clients have included all the major film and television studios: The Walt Disney Studios, NBCUniversal, Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks SKG, ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and many more independents.

Raised in New Orleans, he brings his creative and business development talents to bear on the film, television, music and stage communities in Hollywood South, with one mission — to help make Hollywood South THE contender.

Today, as an independent film and television producer, Mr. Gill has leveraged his career, background, skills and experience to launch an Internet start-up — The HollywoodSouth Blog.

“I’ve always dreamed of producing in Louisiana while strategically leveraging my contacts in the Los Angeles Hollywood community.”

As Local Producer for the 48 Hour Film Project in 2007, he “Singlehandedly gave the New Orleans indie film community a collective voice overnight.” Mr. Gill spearheaded an international film competition in the post-Katrina New Orleans environment to bring back the independent filmmaking community to the United States’ third largest film & television production revenue generating state.

“I have had the honor of working with such Hollywood titans as Orson Welles and John Huston, in the early stages of my career. Our paths crossed while working on various projects. I was too young and naive to know I wasn’t ‘supposed to speak’ with them. So, I spent countless hours just listening to their ‘what drives them’ stories. I shall never forget my fortuitous opportunities to be blessed by their presence. Their legacies live on in cinematic history.”

Hanging his own shingle as an independent film, television and new media producer, New Orleans Moving Pictures Co. was born. Mr. Gill is developing several film, television and new media projects which will be exclusively produced in Louisiana utilizing the talents of Hollywood South.
